Frequently Asked Questions
See all FAQDo I need a microphone to play Mimic Party?
Yes, absolutely required โ the official system requirements say a microphone is REQUIRED because the whole game is played with your voice. We also strongly recommend headphones: the game itself advises them, and launch-window reviewers confirm that game audio leaking into an open mic can get picked up and even scored.
Can we play locally on one screen or one PC?
No. Mimic Party is online only and needs a constant connection โ there is no local same-screen mode. The store lists 1-5 players, but the solo slot is for practicing alone; the requirements describe it as online multiplayer only (2-5 players). At least one player refunded specifically because there is no couch multiplayer.
My friend cannot join with the room code and it times out. What helps?
This is a known launch-window issue with no official answer yet. The community workaround: in settings, both host and friends switch to the same region outside Europe (the EU servers are the overloaded ones), and the host creates an open party. Some players report it still fails after doing everything right โ if that happens, the two-hour Steam refund window is your safety net.
What does the "player is still missing content" error mean?
It is a Steam Workshop sound pack sync failure: everyone at the table must have the same pack, at the same version, installed before the game starts. The lobby shows who is still downloading. Players report that reinstalling the game or clearing the Workshop cache does not help โ after a pack author updates their pack, each subscriber has to manually uninstall and reinstall it.
Why did I score 0 even though I imitated the sound perfectly?
The scorer only compares melody (in relative pitch), rhythm and attack count โ never how similar you sound โ and it runs locally on your machine. That said, "sounded perfect, got 0" is the single most common complaint in launch-window reviews, no fix has been announced, and the per-dimension weights are unpublished. Our honest advice: treat it as a party game, not a competitive ladder.
Can I switch microphones or adjust audio settings inside the game?
No โ there are no in-game microphone or headphone settings at all, which even the longest-playing reviewers confirm. The workaround: change your default microphone in the Windows sound settings, then start the game. If your mic is not detected, that Windows-level default is the first thing to check.
